Bermuda Sea Turtle Silver Dollar Coin (1986)
Series
World Wildlife Fund
The obverse of the 1986 Bermuda Sea Turtle Silver Dollar Coin features a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This particular effigy was designed by Raphael Maklouf & began circulation on coins from various nations in 1985. It was used through 1997, and a design by Ian-Rank Broadley replaced it beginning with coins issued in 1998.
The reverse of the coin includes a detailed image of a sea turtle swimming. There are seven species of sea turtles, and almost all of them are considered endangered. The World Wildlife Fund works to protect sea turtles & their habitats, to stop them from becoming extinct. Threats to sea turtles include habitat loss, overharvesting, poaching, climate change, and pollution.
The 1986 Bermuda Sea Turtle Silver Dollar Coin had a limited mintage of only 25,000 coins, which was common with coins in the WWF 25th-anniversary series. Most coins in the series were issued by the British Royal Mint on behalf of other governments, though some other mints did participate.
Coin is shipped in a plastic capsule to protect it during shipping. Capsule can also be used to store or display the coin. |
