King Edward VIII Copper High-Relief Medallion (Canada 2009)
The reverse shows the uncrowned effigy of Edward VIII, who was king of Britain from January 20 to December 11, 1936. When he acceded to the throne in January, preparations for new coins bearing his effigy began, but Edward VIII abdicated before the production tools for all the coins to be issued in Britain & its colonies were completed. Hence, this particular effigy never entered circulation in Canada. The effigy itself is in ultra-high relief which is reminiscent of ancient medallic art.
Each coin is encapsulated & presented in a maroon clamshell case lined with flock, and protected by a black sleeve. |
